I need to clarify that my email from last week about the one by one
is more theory then proof but for me it makes the Atonement more
personal.
As for this week, yesterday I went to a baptism for
this little girl who is 10ish. Her mom is a member but was inactive for
awhile and the dad I hear use to belong to another church and was super
involved. I am not sure exactly what he did but it was something. The
Elder's just showed up at the house one day and started teaching the
family. Things seemed to be going really well but a few weeks ago the
Elder's were told that the family didn't have time to meet with them
anymore. Luckily they had a baptismal date set for the daughter and the
parents kept it. I was sad to hear that the Elder's might not teach the
dad anymore because he is really great. One I would think would be
labeled as a "golden investigator" so to hear that they were dropping
the Elders was sad for me.
Here's the thing, THE BAPTISM WAS AMAZING!!!!! I can't even tell
you how strong the spirit was. I sung the song "Child's Prayer" with my
companion in Spanish. I looked down at the Dad sitting right in front of
me and saw the tears streaming down his face, then I looked at the
little girl who was about to be baptized and she was in tears as well. I
almost lost it and joined them but I maintained my composure. Afterwards
we went to their house for dinner. I had a brief minute to talk to the
Dad. He started to tell me the story of how he met the Elder's but we
got interrupted. He told me that he knew this church was right and that
he was going to be next. While I was talking to him he was beaming! It
was an incredible experience. I can't even describe in words all the
good that came from last night's experience. Even to the moment that we
were talking. He loves the Elder's so much! He really appreciates them
coming to the door. I can't wait to see this family progress enough have
the blessings of an eternal family.
It is funny because they were so close to saying no more, actually
they did say no more but then the Holy Ghost just swoops right in and
touches people's hearts. He truly does more then we could ever know. My
dad wrote me this week and reminded me that no work is bad work. I am
beginning to know how true this is. For example two weeks ago when we
did the district blitz in our area we found an apartment of a family.
The boyfriend of the daughter was over and he said while in Mexico he
used to be taught English by the missionaries. I think that because he
had an experience with missionaries it made the daughter curious and in
turn we were able to visit with the Mom. My companion always said
publicity good or bad for the church can always end up good. She has a
friend that saw a TV show that made fun of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints because of this he was curious and found the mormon.org website. Eventually he took the missionary discussions and was baptized. Crazy!
This morning I achieved one of my life long goals! I don't think I
have ever voiced this to anyone but I have always wanted to know what it
felt like to be in a cloud. Today I was! It was just as great as I had
imagined. I know a few times when I was in San Francisco the weather was
foggy and cloud like but today I was actually in the mountains. We went
for a morning hike and it was pretty fun. Luckily it was cloudy
because it has been SO hot lately and we would have dried up the minute
we stepped out of the car. When we got to the top we were literally in
the clouds. You could see them pass over the top of the mountain. So
what does it feel like? It is wet, cool,... I am not sure how else to
describe it. I really enjoyed our adventure today. Of course you
couldn't see much down below when we reached the top but I really liked
it! The drive to the hike was similar to the payson canyon up to girls
camp so I felt a little at home.
Transfer's are next Monday, I am prediciting that I will stay in my
area. I really hope I do too. We had Sister exchanges last Wednesday. I
went to Santa Clarita for the day with Sister Hansen. I realized how
much I love me Ghetto street and how much I truly love the Valley. Santa
Clarita is really nice. The area is huge though! The Hermana's cover
the whole valley pretty much! By one I was ready to come back! haha I
really hope I stay. I love here and I am not ready to go yet! I know
that the Lord will do what he knows is best and if I am transfered I
will be happy wherever I go but deep in my heart I hope I stay!
My exchange was really good. I learned so much! The member's in
Santa Clarita are awesome. We went to this ladies house and helped her
clean her kitchen. They were going to have a wedding at her house
Saturday. I know you will be pleased to hear how I did in the Spanish
department while we were there. Well I will tell you. I did awesome! My
companion knew all of the things about this woman so I spent the hour
just asking questions and having a real conversation with her. I was so
happy to have the practice. My companion had to translate sometimes and
give me words but I feel as though I did really well!
Well I have to go! I love you all! Thanks for all the letters! I am
going to play catch up today and see how many I can get out! Sorry and
thanks for being patient with me! Love you!
