Yesterday I had my second baptism. I have to give a shout out to
the missionaries that were in this area before me. About 2 years ago the
missionaries started going to this one house every Tuesday night. When
Hermana and I came into the area we picked up right where they left
off. In a period of 4 months time I have seen a complete change in this
family. The hard work of the missionaries before has paid off. I just
got to see it all. This 10 year old girl was baptized by her father. It
was a beautiful baptism. As we sang the song "Child's Prayer" I looked
down and saw tears streaming down her face. I couldn't help but be
overcome with joy for this little girl. She has been waiting to be
baptized by her dad but the parents needed to come back to church. Not
only are they active they are back in full force! We stopped by their
house after the baptism and the mom said to me "Next step temple". This
is what I like to hear! I hope that I would be able to witness it.
There were a few funny stories from this baptism; one happened last
Tuesday. My district leader came over to interview her for the baptism.
When he got to the baptismal question for the Word of Wisdom, she put
her finger on her forehead -like she normally does when she is
thinking- trying to remember what the word of wisdom was. She said "Word
of wisdom... Wisdom, like smart, clever, intelligent, it means or
being smart about something.... oh yeah it means you don't drink tea,
coffee, alcohol". When I heard this I could totally picture her in the
zone trying to remember what she had been taught. I also was told that
when he asked her if she had a testimony of Jesus Christ she replied "OF
COURSE!!!" haha oh this little girl. Last funny little experience,
after she was baptized she asked my district leader "do I have the Holy Ghost now?" I was standing close enough to reply and said "No but you
will get it next Sunday." This little girl is such a good example to all
of us don't you think? She has been anxiously awaiting to be baptized
and anxiously awaiting the gift of the Holy Ghost. She is a huge example
to me because two things she has wanted for a really long time I have.
AND I have had them for awhile! I need to remember how important they
are. It is easy sometimes to take them for granted.
Also, she wants to be a missionary SO BAD!!!! As I was doing my
personal study this last week I had an idea pop into my head. I pray
that it was inspiration and that it will work out but it was that she
wouldn't have to wait to be a missionary but she could actually start
doing missionary work now! Hopefully it will pan out but we will see!
I am just so grateful for the reminder in the scriptures to be like the children,
I better run but I love you all! Thanks for all the prayers! I can feel them.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Hermana Fish
