The temple was great. It is really pretty inside. As always
absolutely gorgeous. Before the session started one of the temple
presidency spoke to us about different meanings in the temple. I really
learned so much! Even though he told us things and meanings behind them
he said like the scriptures we can learn things at our own level. We
read scriptures over and over again then one day the scripture hits us
and we have a deeper level of understanding. My favorite part was
sitting in the room watching all the missionaries come in. One by one. I
always got really excited to see who would come in next. It was
awesome! I love the temple! It gave me a greater strength to bring
families into the gospel.
This week my companion and I continued knocking. You really never
know what you will find behind the door. One gentlemen was a hippie and
as we walked away he told us "Hemp will save the world". Another person
we talked to for awhile and when we asked to say a prayer she said "I
don't need a Mormon prayer". In fact that day not one person would let
us pray with them. I never knew talking to our Heavenly Father would be
not wanted. One person opened the door just long enough to say "I'm not
interested". I walked away thinking "HOW DO YOU KNOW!!!!" haha. It was
kind of sad to see how door to door contacting can be very discouraging
but just when I would feel as we were not getting anywhere we would find
a door that had someone behind it that was very nice and open. I
believe it was a tender mercy of the Lord. All our efforts did not go
unwasted, with the help of the Elder's we found a few people to go back
and visit. I am afraid that most of the people we found will end up
going to the English Elder's but oh well as long as they hear the
message.
This week we went over to this apartment complex we are always at
and saw the kids. We were visiting someone else but invited them to
church. They replied "We are going with the family upstairs to church
this week." My mouth dropped. This "family upstairs" are Christian and
very active in their religion. We have said "hello" as we have come
across them but nothing more. We heard a story about some Jehovah
witnesses coming by and knocking on their door. When this family opened
the door and heard the words "It is a beautiful day" from the Jehovah
witnesses the family replied back "well it was until you showed up."
haha. We didn't want the same response so we have kept our distance
knowing they don't want anything to do with other religions. So here we
are talking to these kids and we find out this family as been watching
our every move. I am not a 100% sure but I know this family and all of
our investigators in that apartment complex have lived there for awhile.
It just seems odd that the minute we visit these kids this family comes
in and invites them to church. I mean maybe it is just me but it
seemed rather perfect timing. Haha all I can do is laugh at this irony.
It is also ironic because these kids are close to the age of Joseph
Smith when he prayed to find out which church is true.I know that this
family upstairs is doing what they think is best but I know that the
true master behind all of this. It stinks to have Satan watching our
every move. He gets in the way. I think this is the hardest part of the
mission. Knowing that Satan is watching. I will keep you posted. I
really can see a great future for these kids.
This week coming up our new mission president arrives. It is crazy
that he is already on his way. We have a training tomorrow from our
former president. I will be sad to see them go. He and his wife always
have a smile on their faces. He really does remind me of the word that
people use to describe Santa Claus that word being "jolly". We have
training with our president tomorrow then next week zone conference with
the new president and then interviews the following week with the new
president. President has decided not to tell the new president anything
about us so we are starting from a clean slate. I think it is a great
idea. It gives those struggling missionaries a chance to start over. I
am excited to have a few months in the mission. There are 3 things that
qualify you as still a "greenie". I have passed 2 of them. One being
leaving my trainer, another being passed my 6 month mark and the last I
just have to leave my first area. I hope that I still keep the greenie
fire.
I better go. I hope you all have a great week! Love you
