Transfers where super different this week but I really enjoyed it. I
got to see some of my missionary friends I haven't seen in a REALLY
LONG time! Some I probably won't see for a while since they are going
home soon. It was a really neat how they went this time around. We all
sat in the chapel according to our zone. Then President Hall read the
changes one zone at a time and after he finished reading the changes in
the zone everyone would quickly switch. This was done until the very
last zone had been read. There were some big surprises...well I don't
know if I would call them surprises but one companionship was announced
and lots of missionaries in my zone started laughing. I can't really
describe it but two missionaries got put together and it will be an
interesting experience. I bet it will be super fun though. My new
companion is Hermana Prince. I don't know if you remember but we were on
exchanges a few transfers ago for a day. She is great. She is a really
hard worker. I am a little scared I won't be able to keep up with her
but we will see! haha!
We had the baptism yesterday for my miracle boy. Do you remember I
told you about him a few weeks ago? He is the one that called us and
wanted to be baptized. Well he got baptized yesterday! It was my first
time being in charge of a baptism. I was a little stressed. It was a
learning process for me. I was fine until one of the people we thought
would be there with keys ended up not coming. It all worked out. I
learned a lot and hopefully the next time around things will be more
smooth.
Oh! hahaha! Guess what?! Okay well, this 17 year old who got
baptized yesterday found the church from his English speaking
girlfriend. They have been dating for 2 years. When he planned the
program he decided he wanted her to speak on baptism..... IN ENGLISH and
this was fine except for the fact that Hermana Zepeda my previous
SPANISH speaking companion was giving the talk on the Holy Ghost. And
that was fine except my current companion who has been out for a little
over a year has had a sore throat.... WHICH MEANT.... I was left to
translate this talk from English to Spanish. haha I wish you could have
been there. Oh geez! First I was super nervous so I didn't want to look
at anyone so I decided to look at her paper that she was reading her
talk from. I probably shouldn't have tried to translate from the paper
but rather listen to what she said and translate that way. Second, I was
doing fine until she said the words "In Titus....." She used a
scripture in her talk and I had no clue how to translate it. I didn't
even know how to say "Titus" in Spanish so instead I said the words "en
las escrituras" meaning in the scriptures. haha! It was really funny. I
wonder if maybe it would have been better to go without the translation
and just let those Spanish speakers feel her spirit. It was funny
because afterwards I talked to this super awesome couple who is here
living until December. They said that when I got to the scriptures I
pulled it off really well....or something along those lines. Oh man this
makes me laugh everytime I tell it. I have been laughing the whole time
I was writing! haha I wish you could have been there or I caught it on
video. I think it would be America's Funniest Home Video's material!
Our miracle this week was something the 17 year has hoped for since
day 1. When we first met him a few weeks ago he told us that he wanted
to be baptized. I think we talk for 10 minutes about how he hoped that
as he made the decision to go to church and get baptized. He hoped his
family would follow in his footsteps. His family had taken the
missionary lesson once before but weren't progressing at all so the
missionaries stopped teaching them. When he told his mom he wanted to
get baptized she started being more curious about what he was doing. We
taught a few times one time we tried committ her to a baptismal date but
she didn't want to set something without talking to her husband. One of
the lessons we had with her this last week her son with us. He was
talking to his girlfriend about something while we were committing her
to a specific date. She orignally wanted to get baptized in February but
we moved it up to November 25th. The day after her sons birthday. We
set the date and then turned to him and said "Hey your mom has a date for
baptism!" (since he wasn't really paying attention). I will never
forget the look on his face! He stopped mid sentence to whatever he had
been talking about. His mouth dropped and he was completely frozen. We
all kind of just sat there waiting for him to say something but then the
tears started to roll down his cheeks. He had to hide his face cause he
was a little embarrassed. We told him when it was and that he will
probably be able to baptism them. What a miracle eh? All that he wanted
since day 1 was to have his family hopefully join him and it is
happening just in time for a sweet birthday present. It is a miracle
that we have been blessed to be a part of.
I think that is all I have this week. I have a lot more time this week to write letters. I have a lot to catch up on. Sorry I have been slacking. I hope you all forgive me!
Love you! Hermana Fish
